Simply put "Parkour" is an art developed to help you navigate your environment from one point to another, using the capabilities of the human body. Parkour if practiced recklessly can be very dangerous. NYPK, its owners, administrators, moderators, and members cannot be held responsible for the actions of individuals who act un-accordingly, and abuse the art. We cannot be held responsible for the actions of visitors or anyone claiming to practice parkour. The content provided within the pages of NYPK is presented freely, and open to interpretation. Parkour originated in France, but it has always existed in a way, it was popularized mostly through the Internet via videos of the Original Yamakazi. It has passed through many hands, and has seen many forms, and inspired many people. Parkour does however differ in the personal definition from person to person. One of The best way to start training, is to first build basic strength, in pushing, pulling and pressing, your own weight. Whether that is done with weights, or at the local park, or in trees, or a zero gravity chamber in Alaska, it's up to the individual, we believe overly strict instruction stunts the learning process, and takes away from the personal journey that is Parkour. However, the abundant resources of the Internet, and physical training books are not always enough, as such we do offer Parkour instruction at NYPK. We were the first to open up PK classes, and workshops in America, and have the oldest running program to date.

NYParkour is the first and official home of Parkour in the New York New Jersey and the surrounding Metro area. Our goal is to help guide practitioners toward their own path, and to discover the art and respect it as we do.
We believe that every journey in Parkour is unique, and each individual, through much hard work and self sacrifice, must discover the meaning of Parkour for themselves, while watched and helped by the leaders of their respective communites, as such we strive to help anyone who may need help training, understanding and implementing Parkour. While Parkour does have an established definition, it takes years of dedicated training to understand it and to find where the real freedom lies. Parkour is not merely just a means of physical expression, it helps to break the mental and physical barriers that limit human potential.
NYParkour is a grass roots community, it was founded in 2005 by a few veteran practitioners, to help establish New York as an independent voice for spreading Parkour, while maintaining its true spirit. It was one of the first local sites to be started in America, to help develop a local community, and help Parkour grow towards a positive future in America.
What we do:
We have done everything from performances at arts festivals, to commercial shoots, to advertisements and feature films. We also run the oldest established Parkour training program in America.
Where we've been:
From gyms, to alleyways and parks, to the rooftop of Madison Square Garden. We have been all over the world, to train, to learn and to grow. |
