Hot off the heals of Teresa LoPalo's article on the Banks closing, The New York times also released an article this week on the same topic, but this ones more from a skateboarders perspective. Still 5Boro Skate Founder turned Banks Advocate, Steve Rodriguez sheds some more light on the situation and his future concerns about the closing.
Today's "Parkour games" Jam has been postponed However Saturdays Barbarian Jam is still on, Saturday (tomorrow) at 11, and Oasis will be helping Thomas run tomorrow's Power Jam! at 3pm on Roosevelt Island
Also, NYPK's 5th Anniversary is Coming up this May 28th! and Were Celebrating with a good old fashioned BBQ and the premier of Prince Of Persia, provided we get in. More info coming soon.
We were invited out for Swing a Ring day to do a little demo/workshop. I threw together a little vid of that day, nothing crazy, just relaxed fun in the sun.
As Promised, NYPK's first Journalist Teresa LoPalo has wrapped up her inaugural article on The Status of our favorite teaching grounds. Last Month Teresa had the chance to Correspond with 5Boro founder Steve Rodriguez, (who has been at the forefront of the issue since the beginning), and a member of The New York City Department of Transportation in order to help shed some additional light on the "Up in the air situation." The article is definitely worth a read. Oh.. and don't be stingy on the comments either!
The Closing of the Brooklyn Banks
The Brooklyn Bridge was rated as a “poor” constructive bridge in 2007. The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) has decided to reconstruct the bridge and it has started to take effect this year. This project will interfere with the use of the Brooklyn Banks (a popular training site for traceurs, skaters, bikers, etc.). As far as the construction goes, entrance and exit ramps will be rebuilt and widened, railings will be reinstalled, the deck will be resurfaced and there will also be repainting done. Many areas are in effect.

NYPK is the first and official home of Parkour in New York, New Jersey and the surrounding metropolitan area. Our goal is to help guide practitioners toward their own path, and to discover the art and respect it as we do.
