So I was thinking of maybe everybody could share their experience as in what other people had to say about you doing Parkour.

Why?

Because I think it might be interesting to see whether or not people see us as a menace or emancipator. I'm really interested. List what kind of reaction you have caused from whom, through which actions and in what area.

For readability purpose, everybody just open up one reply and re-edit it when you got new experiences to share.

- Saarbruecken (SB), Germany: Old man, while climbing around at some housing facade in the middle of the night: "What do you think you're doing down there you clown?!"

- SB, Germany: Woman with kid, while balancing on some hydrants/rails: "Wow, isn't that Parkour you're doing??" *happy smiles*

- SB, Germany: Mid-aged woman, while konging over a fence 10 feet down to roulade: "You're insane!"

- SB, Germany: 7 year old kid to his mom, while jumping off from a wall into a tree: "Mommy, that man just disappeared into the tree??? How will he be coming down again?"

---

- Lower West Side, NYC: Big (black) bouncer, while doing some rail jumps in the middle of the night in front of a club: "Yo, have you seen this movie... what's it called... District 13?! That shit is awesome man!"

- Harlem, NYC: 4 NYPD officers while doing a workout routine at a public playground around midnight (y'all know it's prohibited): "Parkour what? You mean Jackie Chan shit!" (bastards still gave me a summons after a nice warm body search)

Had lots of good reactions about parkour. A man saw me and foxx practicing in Chelsea Piers and he said to us. "Are you guys doing Parkour? Thats awsome!". Another time, I was at a gymnastics gym and there were a lot of kids of all ages there. As soon as I started vaulting over high objects and dive rolling, everyone was in my control and on my command. I was surrounded. Then....a few hours later, a guy asked what I was doing and in a couple of seconds, he started practicing parkour with me. There are a lot of other examples but....you get the point. From what I've experienced, parkour is an amazement and something tolerable to others. They simply can't complain........couldn't careless either way. Laughing

Despite how the sfpk community may be, the general public of san francisco seem to be alot more aware about it than here in nj/ny.

Most people call it freerunning though. (i stick to non-fr moves)

(Then I correct them in a nice and polite manner).

I went to Philly recently and my cousins called what I did street running(???) but they thought it was cool and saw it as skating without the board, but after watching me jump a bit they sat it wasnt really like skating.
Here in France its seen as the disicpline of the Yamakasi and its known because of them.

After training a bit here in a well used spot (lots of foot prints everywhere) I saw that most people where I was training where used to parkour and freerunning (called freestyle parkour) here which was cool there was graffiti that said parkour 13 (we were training in paris 13eme).

Stunt training, showing off, performing. its funny how people will not listen to an explanation and go with what they think is going on.

+1 absolutely. I have been accused of stunt training and showing off (although I occasionally do the latter), and I am sure most of us have.
